High Speed 2 West Midlands

 

The government's decision to proceed with a high speed rail network for the UK presents a major opportunity for the future prosperity of businesses and people living and working in the West Midlands.

 

Go-HS2 is a group comprising Centro, Birmingham City Council, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Airport, the NEC Group, Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, Business Birmingham and Birmingham Future.

 

It aims to promote the many benefits HS2 will bring to businesses and people across the West Midlands, including:

  • 54,000 people a day travelling from stations near Birmingham Moor Street - under 50 minutes travel time to London - and near Birmingham Airport - 38 minutes travel time.

  • A £4 billion boost to the local economy, bringing an estimated 50,000 jobs to the region.

  • Freeing up capacity on the existing rail network, which will is almost at full capacity, whilst improving other local transport.

  • Improved regeneration, national and international connections and making the region more attractive to business, visitors and redevelopment.
